In 1913: A 10- by 10-foot lookout station was being packed up Lassen Peak on the back of horses in sections. Once there, the building would be assembled and fastened together with iron clamps and steel cables. A specially designed weather-proof telephone would connect the lookout with the main line to the forest supervisor’s headquarters.
