Bill Conrad / Staff Photo: Leo is the newest member of the Little Elm Police Department. The 19-month-old Belgian Malinois is trained to locate narcotics, as well as track and apprehend suspects. His handler is Det. Chad Barfknecht, a 4 1/2-year veteran of the department.

Petaluma police officer and K-9 handler Michael Page walks his police dog Rico, a Belgian Malinois, to strengthen his legs on Monday, June 10, 2013 in Petaluma. Rico was seriously injured in a training accident on April 15 and has since been recovering from his spinal injuries.
