stomatitis
- n inflammation of the mucous membrane of the mouth
- The disease is called variously Vincent's angina, trench mouth, ulcerated stomatitis, necrotic gingivitis.
- Then a bacillus and a spirochete (and sometimes other mouth germs) work together to produce tender, bleeding gums (medical name: Vincent's stomatitis) or throat and tonsil .
- The first Canadian case, thought at the time to be vesicular stomatitis (blistering of the mouth), broke out at a Saskatchewan farm on which a German immigrant had worked briefly .
