Hoggatt School provides a look at our history On the southwest corner of the Meeker Elementary School playground, a small white building stands. What may at first look like a shed is actually the old Hoggatt School, the first school to ever open in Ames. The one-room schoolhouse has survived 152 years and a brush with demolition to make it to its current home on the playground.
