Police believe William Platt, 63, of Fort Lee, was trying to cross the highway shortly after 9 p.m. when he was hit by a 2008 Jeep Patriot headed east. He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Police Chief Ken Ehrenberg said.
