• Melancholy day as foghorns come down at Candlestick
  Jim Phelan, above, harnesses up, right, before dismantling a set of 49ers foghorns Friday from the top of Candlestick Park. The foghorns are headed to the new stadium in Santa Clara, but for Phelan, 61, the job is bittersweet. His family's steeplejack business, J.C. Phelan and Son, has been installing lights and flagpoles there since 1961, shortly after the stadium opened.
