helleborus helleborus

  • (n) a genus of Helleborus

  • Hellebore repels deer, rabbits; provides early spring blooms

Helleborus orientalis are wonderful early spring bloomers that get their nickname from the Christian calendar because they bloom around Lent (they are not at all related to the rose, however). Hellebores are small evergreen flowering perennials that begin blooming as early as February.
