Omitted, fortunately, are such high-fad content terms as lookism (bias against people because of their appearance), ableism (bias against the handicapped) or differently abled .
Ableism devalues people with disabilities and results in segregation, social isolation, and social policies that limit their opportunities for full societal participation.
Most of us may find that when we say that a person has become a vegetable, the underlying ableism is exposed, allowing us to attach new subversive meanings to the word.
The Ghost of Ableism Fighting the ghost of ableism means being all right with asking for help. Getting it is another matter.
