If you want to indicate large numbers of same or similar kind use "several". If you have varied kinds in the group with large number, use "various". Both are correct but need to be used in different context.
Various means having a diverse or broad range of entirely different elements.
"There are various types of fruits in the world."
Several means each particularly taken item, object, element, individual singly.
"We have several amusement locations in my city but the town's park stands as superior."
