About the time that computers began to make the creation and printing offootnotes extremely simple and cheap, style manuals began to urge ashift away from them to endnotes printed at the ends of chapters or atthe end of a book or paper rather than at the foot of the page. I happento think this was a big mistake; but in any case, if you are usingendnotes, don’t call them “footnotes.”
