FWC & partners release manatee red tide survivors The recent algae bloom known as red tide killed at least 270 manatees, but 15 were rescued and survived. Two are being released back into the wild today in Boca Grande.

Manatees return home after rehabilitating Red tide took its toll on Southwest Florida this winter. 270 manatees died because of the toxic algae, but we met a couple of the lucky ones. Survivors were rescued in our area and rehabilitated in Tampa. Two were released in Boca Grande Thursday.
