An Afghan can be used to describe someone from Afghanistan or of Afghan descent. It can also mean a blanket that has been crocheted and knitted.

"The Security man from work is of Afghan ancestry."

Afghani on the other hand is a monetary currency used as a medium of exchange in Afghanistan to purchase goods or services.
