Today in history: July 14, 2013 In 1913: Because the broad sweep of the Sacramento River at the foot of Pine, East and Liberty streets was thought a sufficient barrier, little attention was paid to the brush fire that raged fiercely on the north side of the river. Under the force of a north wind the fire crossed the river and destroyed the two-story residence of Otto Johnson at the north end of East Street.
